Manchester United and AC Milan are leading the race for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia, according to Spanish radio station Cope.
The former Real Madrid youth product signed for Benfica in 2009 and proved himself to be a competent midfielder during his time in Portugal.
The 24-year-old's impressive performance has sparked interest across Europe, with United and Milan the two most interested.
United have yet to find a suitable holding midfield player, and despite the best attempts of Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher, a genuine ball winner might just be what the club need to help out their leaky defence.
Milan are also in need of some fresh legs in midfield, with Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso in the twilight of their careers, while United have Ryan Giggs also ready to hang up his boots
