PEP TALK ... Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola at the Ballon d'Or Gala
ALEX FERGUSON has ruled out the possibility of Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola succeeding him as Manchester United manager.
Ferguson, 70, plans to step down at Old Trafford in three years with Guardiola touted as a candidate to replace the legendary Scot. But Fergie doesn't believe the Spaniard would be interested in leaving his post at the Nou Camp.
The Red Devils boss said: "Why would Pepe want to leave Barcelona?
"If I was in his position, I would firmly stay where I was."
Barcelona have been a cut above the elite teams of Europe under Guardiola, winning the Champions League twice since he took charge in four years ago.
Both successes saw the Catalans beat United in the final – 2-0 in Rome in 2009 and 3-1 at Wembley last May.
Superstar Lionel Messi was inspirational on both occasions – scoring in each final – and the Argentine ace is set to win the Ballon d'Or for the third year in a row tonight.
And Fergie believes Barca will retain their title and be crowned kings of Europe once again this season.
He said: "I can't see anyone taking the trophy from them.
"It's just plain facts that the Barcelona team just now, particularly with Lionel in their side, are just an extraordinary team.
"Sometimes in football you have to hold your hand up and say, yeah, they're better than us."
