Boss backs his players
Sir Alex expects his side to produce another masterful away performance in Europe on Wednesday night with the pressure on heading into the trip to Basel.United must avoid defeat in the final group game in order to clinch a place in the knockout stages, but the Reds will be up against a Swiss side with plenty to play for as well. Indeed, victory for Basel would ensure qualification for the last 16 at United's expense.
The boss admits the 3-3 draw against Basel at Old Trafford earlier in the season could prove a costly result, but he's backing his players to use their experience to good effect on Wednesday.
"Our form away from home in Europe over the last three or four years has been fantastic," he explained at his press conference for the Sunday papers. "We've really done well and it needs to be that kind of performance on Wednesday.
"The only advantage is they do need to win and they have to try to beat us. We've always kept good possession of the ball and made that a dominating factor of our game. It can take the temperature out of the game.
"We went to Besiktas and Bursaspor and the noise was incredible, but you can kill that with good possession of the ball and the concentration levels have been really terrific. You need that in these games."
Sir Alex admits the Champions League is getting tougher all the time with the emergence of a number of lesser known teams providing some tricky tests along the way.
