Manchester United want Oscar de Marcos, the Athletic Bilbao attacker who helped dump Sir Alex Ferguson's side out of the Europa League.

United have already sent scouts to watch De Marcos, 22, and chief scout Jim Lawlor will fly out to Spain to watch him in the coming weeks ahead of any potential offer.

The Spanish club have written a £26million release clause into his contract and performances this season under coach Marcelo Bielsa could persuade United to stump up the full amount.

Ferguson has also been linked with moves for Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder and Lille’s Eden Hazard in recent months.
