EvRA lauds United character
Patrice Evra has praised United’s “character and personality” after the Reds overcame a series of injuries on Saturday to earn a hard-fought draw with Stoke City in the Barclays Premier League.
The French left-back believes a point against the Potters is satisfactory, given that Sir Alex Ferguson's side were forced to start without Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans and complete all bar three minutes of it minus Javier Hernandez.
Evra told MUTV: “I will be honest, it was a good point. It is really difficult to go to Stoke and get three points. We did it last season and we had a good opportunity to do it again on Saturday through Ryan Giggs. But big teams come here and only get a point. It was not an easy game and it finished with a draw.
“We are disappointed because we conceded a goal from a set-piece, but after the game you feel strong,” the Reds defender admitted. “The boss told us he needed men before the game and I think all the lads showed character and personality. It was a shame we didn’t win the game, but it is not easy to play at Stoke.”
United’s stand-in skipper went on to pay tribute to David De Gea, who pulled off a number of world-class saves at the Britannia Stadium, prompting Evra to proclaim the Spaniard as “one of the best”.
“I think David is doing really well and his confidence is growing," Evra observed. "You can see how all of the players are happy for him when he makes a great save. We support him. That is Man United. He had a difficult start but if you saw the game against Chelsea you’ll know he made some great saves, and he made some more on Saturday (against Stoke). I’m really confident with him and you know he gets a lot of support from the players and the manager. He can be one of the best.”
