Reports: Man United close in on Benfica star
Manchester United are closing in on Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan, according to sources in Portugal.
With the Premier League title set to end up at bitter rivals Manchester City, Sir Alex Ferguson is set to ring the changes this summer in order to re-establish United as the country's number one side.
And his pursuit of Gaitan is likely to end up with the attacker moving to Old Trafford. Portuguese newspaper Record, which has close links to Benfica, claims Gaitan's transfer to United is virtually a done deal.
The paper's front page splashes on the story, with United seemingly beating competition from City to land Gaitan.
Benfica wanted to keep the 24-year-old but he has spoken of his desire to play for United and it seems he may get his wish.
Gaitan, who can play out wide as well as centrally, has been watched for well over a year and Benfica are ready to sanction the move to Old Trafford.
United, in a bid to sweeten the deal for the Portuguese side, are set to let Fabio move there on loan for a season.
