Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov may join the big-spending Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala this winter.
According to the player’s agent Emil Danchev, Anzhi are offering the Bulgarian striker a salary of 9 million euro per year, while Berbatov wants 15 mln, which currently seems the main obstacle in talks.
Negotiations between the two sides will resume in the next few weeks, as the club from Dagestan makes another attempt to strike a deal with the player’s agent and The Red Devils.
“We would be interested when Anzhi make a concrete offer,” Emil Danchev told Life Sports. “We will sit down with Dimitar and ponder this. I don’t know if Berbatov is happy in MU. He plays, then just sits down on a bench.”
Anzhi representatives have yet to comment.
Dimitar Berbatov moved to Manchester United from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2008, costing the club 45 million euro.
The 30-year-old played 101 matches for MU, scoring 41 goals. The Bulgarian was recently a rare starting line-up choice of Sir Alex Ferguson. His contract with Man United expires in June 2012.
