Modric similar to Scholes

Sir Alex Ferguson can see why some people compare Luka Modric to United's veteran playmaker Paul Scholes.
The duo are expected to go head-to-head in Sunday's crunch Barclays Premier League encounter and will look to stamp their influence by dictating matters with their range of passing. Scholes has been in outstanding form since returning to the United fold while Modric has been a key figure for Spurs.
The Croatia international missed the meeting at Old Trafford at the start of the season when Chelsea were pressing in vain to sign him; six months later, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been totally vindicated in his determination to hang onto the talented midfielder.
"They are both intelligent footballers and both influence their teams," explained Sir Alex. "Scholesy influences the Manchester United team as Modric does at Tottenham so it's a reasonable comparison.
"I don't think they're identical players, they are different types. But, nonetheless, they have the same qualities in terms of controlling the game and their passing consistency is good. One thing people often under-estimate with Modric is his stamina."
Scholes clearly made the right call in coming out of retirement as he was excellent again in the win at Norwich.
"I think Paul knew right away when he went to coach with the Reserves," added the boss. "He came to me and said: 'I think I made a mistake' and the evidence you're seeing now tells you he was right. His form has been fantastic."
