Portuguese press say Manchester United have a fee in mind for star player

Press in Portugal are claiming Manchester United won't go above 25m for Nicolas Gaitan. Record - amongst others - say the player's club, Benfica, were looking for a fee of around 45m for him which is his release clause.
It's carried as front page news by the sports paper.
The signing would represent a move to address Manchester United's well documented midfield problems and would certainly be welcomed by supporters who fear funds are stopping improvements. That Manchester United won't go as high as Benfica would like does not mean the deal won't happen - 45m would be vastly overpriced for the 24 year old.
The player himself is keen on a switch to the Premier League leaders and is quoted by The Daily Mail in January as saying "Ever since the pre-season, it has been said that Manchester United are following me.
"Then, Benfica met United in the Champions League group stage and I did not expect that Ferguson would talk about me before and after the game."
He also gave the classic and barely concealed come-and-get-me-plea "'If the transfer happens, it has to be good for Benfica and myself."
Gaitan in an Argentina international and one of the most talked about players in terms of a move to United. He's a little player at 5"7 and would probably be bought to operate as a play maker but he's comfortable out wide.
