Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United are ready to “blow teams away” and take charge of the title race.
United trail Manchester City by two points in the battle for the Premier League crown with 12 games left. And after failing to produce their best on a consistent basis this term, Ferdinand said United are ready to step up a gear – starting at Tottenham tomorrow.
“It’s going to be a long 12 games but it’s going to be exciting,” said Ferdinand.
“But we’d love to hit a rich vein of form now and blow teams away. After the Norwich game I said that sometimes a late 2-1 win like that is psychologically better than a 3-0.
“We know that it’s never, ever over. We’re in a good position, we’ve been there and have the experience and nerve to know what it takes to win from here.”Manager Sir Alex Ferguson reckons the title race is going to come down to the showdown between City and United at the Etihad Stadium on April 30.
“It does look that way,” said Ferguson. “It’s going to be a massive game.
“You can’t see City dropping a lot of points and you can’t see us dropping a lot of points.
“So it does all point to that game and we’re talking about a Monday night game now.” City boss Roberto Mancini agreed with Ferguson that the fixture between the two clubs is likely to be the decisive one.
“It probably could be,” said Mancini. “But I don’t know what will happen in the nine games before we meet United.
“I think United will win 11 games from now to the end of the season, so we need to do the same.”
