Manchester United on Alert as Napoli Star Cancels Contract Talks
Manchester rivals United and City have been put on alert after long-term target Marek Hamsik postponed contract talks with Napoli.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term admirer of Hamsik and considered the Slovakia captain as a possible replacement for the retired Paul Scholes.
Meanwhile, City boss Roberto Mancini has also been linked with a move the 24-year-old and was expected to make an offer during the summer.
Although no move happened during the off-season, both clubs are keeping a close eye on Hamsik's situation.
According to Sportmediaset, Napoli were due to meet the midfielder's agent in Rome on Tuesday, but the meeting was postponed on the terms of Hamsik's representatives.
Napoli are eager to seal their star player to new and improved terms, although City and United's interest could have a detrimental effect on their plans.
