Exclusive '; Fergie to Axe players this week while Vidc will play Tomorrow night in time for Everton
EXCLUSIVE: Fergie plans defensive shake-up Published 22:30 24/10/11 By David McDonnell (5) Recommend . Nemanja Vidic will be rushed back for Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks a remedy for their derby humiliation. The United skipper, who was left out of their 6-1 humiliation by Manchester City, will start against League Two side Aldershot in the Carling Cup on Tuesday in a bid to ensure he is fit to play at Everton in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off. Ferguson is desperate to get Vidic, who has not started a Premier League game since the season opener at West Brom on August 14, where he suffered a calf injury, back to full fitness to shore up a defence that was torn apart on Sunday. A player of Vidic's stature would not normally be included at such an early stage of the Carling Cup tie and against such lowly opponents, but it is a measure of the United manager's desperation to have his 30-year-old captain back. The return of Vidic is seen as crucial to stabilising a defence that is threatening to undermine their chances of a successful defence of their Premier League crown. United are already five points behind City following what Fergie described as his "worst-ever defeat", and the Scot knows his side cannot afford to concede further ground to their noisy neighbours in the title race. Ferguson will undergo a radical review of his defence in the aftermath of the derby debacle, with question marks over even players as established as Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra. Although Ferge is not prone to knee-jerk reactions and impulsive decisions, he is known to harbour major concerns about his defence, which has looked vulnerable for the past few weeks. Ferdinand and Evra could pay the price for Sunday's derby nightmare, with Fabio Da Silva coming in at left-back against Everton and Chris Smalling partnering Vidic in central defence, with Phil Jones at right-back. Ferguson, who addressed his players on their shortcomings against City after Monday's training session, has demanded an immediate reaction - starting at Aldershot
