Former Inter Milan boss Gian Piero Gasperini has claimed the club intended to sell Manchester United target Wesley Sneijder if an 'important offer' had been made during the summer.
Gasperini was sacked by Inter in September after only five games in charge at the San Siro - four of which ended in defeat for the Nerazzurri.
However, the Italian has since lifted the lid on Inter's plans to let Sneijder leave the club if their valuation of the Holland international had been met - something United failed to do.
"Some decisions had already been made for a long time, then the market moved differently," Gasperini told to Controcampo.
"I consider Wesley a fantastic player, I had a great relationship with him, when he played he always gave so much.
"It was known, however, that the intention was to sell Sneijder if there was an important offer."
United had made a concerted effort to bring Sneijder to Old Trafford during the summer as Sir Alex Ferguson scoured the market for a replacement for Paul Scholes.
However, United were unable to reach an agreement for Sneijder and are thought to have given up on the idea of signing the 27-year-old.
