Nani believes United’s Old Trafford fortress can end City’s unbeaten Premier League start and keep the Reds’ proud home record intact.

The champions have not lost at home for 37 matches in all competitions since April 2010 when Chelsea were the victors.

Both Manchester clubs go into Sunday’s derby yet to taste defeat but the Reds’ Portuguese winger says Roberto Mancini’s table-toppers’ flying start is under the biggest threat.

“These are the games that always get the team motivated,” declared Nani.

“When we play these games the team has a different attitude and a different motivation. Of course we like to play big games like that. We hope to win as well.

Confident

“It was important for us to win in the Champions League against Otelul Galati and now we can look forward to the derby.

“Everybody is ready and wants to contribute to the game on Sunday. It’s such a big fixture.

“City have a fantastic team with fantastic players. They play a lot of good stuff and it will be difficult to play against them.

“But we should not forget, we are United. When we play at home it is very difficult to beat us. We will try to do our best to win the game again.

“We are confident. The most important thing is at home, we have to believe we are going to win most of the games.”

United and City have dominated the top two places in the Premier League since the opening day of the season.

But Nani is not ready yet to declare it a Manchester two-horse race for the crown.

“I think City are one of the teams who have been doing fantastic since the season started,” he added.

“But, of course, there are a lot of teams who are doing well. Chelsea are doing fantastic too. It is too early to say it is just going to be about United and City for the title.”

Nani scored twice at Wembley against the Blues in the Community Shield and the 24-year-old also scored the opener against City at Old Trafford last February before his strike was eclipsed by Wayne Rooney’s match-winning overhead kick.

“I have scored a few goals against City and I love these games,” he added.
