Manchester United and Manchester City have been put on alert by the agent of Marek Hamsik who has claimed his client could be on his way out of Napoli at the end of the season.

The highly-talented midfielder has been a long-term target of both Manchester clubs with City coach Fausto Salsana claiming earlier this week that Roberto Mancini is set to make a move.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly identified Hamsik as a player to fill the playmaker role vacated by the retired Paul Scholes.

Napoli, however, have refused to discuss the 24-year-old's future while they remain in the Champions League but it is thought Sir Alex Ferguson and Mancini remain eager to do business.

And they have been given encouragement in their pursuit of £25m-rated Hamsik with his agent, Mino Raiola, refusing to rule out a move away from Napoli.

He said: "Anything can happen in football - but these deals are only going to be activated at the end of the season."
