Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has admitted that the club are monitoring the situation of Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
The Dutch striker joined Sporting from Utrecht in the summer in a deal worth €5.4 million, and after a slow start to life at the Estadio de Alvalade, he has been in a rich vein of form, scoring six goals in the last six matches.
His efforts have reportedly drawn admiring glances in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Liverpool both credited with an interest.
Phelan has now praised Van Wolfswinkel, revealing that the 22-year-old has long been on their radar.
"We have obviously known Van Wolfswinkel for a long time," he told Record. "He is a young striker, very talented, who has been growing in the last few seasons.
"A club like Manchester United carefully follow many players all over the world."
